We had a little impromptu breathing workshop here at dynafit last week 🫁
Here's what we talked about:
# 1 MAKE SURE YOU AREN'T HOLDING YOUR BREATH!
This is in CAPS for a reason because it is the most important. Make sure you are breathing throughout your movement- especially when strength training!
# 2 breath in during the "relaxation" portion of the exercise. Example: in a squat you should be inhaling as you lower yourself towards the floor. In a cable row, you would be inhaling as you return the weight back towards the stack.
# 3 EXHALE as you exert the force. This is particularly important for exercises that require engagement of the core as the exhale portion of your breath allows for better contraction of the entire core muscle. Example: In a squat, you would exhale as you press through the movement to return to stand. In a cable row, you would exhale as you pull the weight towards you.
