James A Rutherford Funeral Home

Carole Jean McAlpine (nee Bowyer) passed away peacefully on February 14, 2024 at the Rotary Hospice in Stratford, Ontario with her loving husband John, of 59 years, by her side.

She was loved very much and will be dearly missed by John and their children: son Jamie (Cindy), daughter Michele Werner (Jim) and son Jason (Kaylee) and their grandchildren, Kaitlin McAlpine (Chad), Meredith McAlpine, Hillary McAlpine (Matt), Adam Werner, Brandon McAlpine and Alison McAlpine as well as by their five great-grandchildren.

Carole was born in Walsall, England. She emigrated to Canada with her parents in 1957 at the age of 12 and lived in Burlington, Ontario for most of her life. After high school she studied to be a nurse and worked at Joseph Brant Hospital as well as with the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) as a traveling nurse, until her retirement. When she wasn’t nursing, she helped run her family’s craft store for many years, called “Do Your Own Thing,” where she acquired a love for many crafts and hobbies. Besides her love for crafting, she loved reading for hours on end and had a keen interest in Egyptology and British history.

Carole’s family will be forever grateful to all the staff and volunteers at the Rotary Hospice for their compassion, kindness and outstanding support.

It was Carole’s wish to be cremated and a private family gathering be held when all can be together again.

Arrangements made through Rutherford Cremation & Funeral Services. 804 Ontario St., Stratford. 519-271-5062
